A parade through Hoylake on Saturday provided a “Wirral welcome” as visitors flock to the town for the return of the Open golf tournament. The parade, which started in West Kirby near the library, made its way through Hoylake, and featured rickshaws, decorated milk floats and the first “festi velo” celebration of bike riding. The event is part of Hoylake’s now annual “Festival of Firsts” which celebrates the arts. The day will also saw the unveiling of flower-decorated golf bags, where people vote for their favourite throughout next week. Judy Ugonna OBE, festival manager for Wirral Festival of Firsts 2014, said: “We have never done anything like this before. People here with long memories of Hoylake say in times gone by when it was a popular seaside resort they used to have a parade, but it is the first for more than half a century.”
