The draw proper is operated by electricity, a50-hp motor being geared directly onto shafting, whichconnects with gears and pinions controlling the movementof this mass of iron. The time consumed in opening andclosing the draw is about three minutes. The companymaintains bridge tenders, who are on duty night and dayat this point, a place of residence being provided for themby construction of buildings on the bridge proper. A 1,000, submarine cable is laid on the bottomstream to conduct current for the operation of the lowerend of the railroad. The private telephone system which isused for the despatching of trains, etc., also crosses Tan- bor, the company is thus permitted to carry on an inter-change of cars with
