Covered with a lustrous patina of dark olive-brown and greenish tone, spread with the characteristic mala-chite, earthen-gray and brown, blue and iron-rust red incrusta-tions of long interment, the patina and incrustations extendingto the interior. On the body beneath the handle, an incised markwith the characters representing son and grandson, betokeningfamily succession and ancestral devotion, the same inscriptionrecurring in the interior of the attached cover. Hfiqht. 9 inches. 129—Wide Semi-globular Bronze Bowl {Hiiii) Its top slightly contracted, with everted lip and tiirce short thickcabriole feet. Body encircled by a single raised rope, below whichis a detached fret band and j)ointed border; the detachetl fretrepeated in a band below the lip. ^Varm olive patina enhancedby patches of rich black. Dirimeler, 10 inches; height, 5/o 130—Ancient Broxze Ceremonial Vessel (Chou) Of squat beaker form with wide moutli, flaring lip and spreadingfoot. A singularly interesting specimen for study of the effectsof time and inhumation. The jar is for the most part coveredby a thick coating of massed incrustations, tufa-like in effectbut green, the fecund green of dense pond-scum. In places theincrustations, disintegrating the metal, replace it with substanceof their own verdant hue; elsewhere a fine black patina with softmalachite mottlings coats the surface; and again where incrusta-tion has been prevented or in course of time removed, as in thebottom of the interior,
