The new design of cylindersusing piston valves contains anumber of new and interestingfeatures. As has been the customfor this type of power on this roadthey are cast with a separate sad-dle, a plate frame passing betweenthe cylinders and the saddle, thewhole construction being securelybolted together. The passage forlive steam in the saddle opensabove the frame connection and iscontinued by a short pipe withground joints extending directly tothe valve chamber. The exhaustpassage, however, is in its usualplace in the saddle casting, and anopening is cut in the plate frameconnecting the passage from thecylinder casting. The cylinders arecast with a chamber for a 12-in. t|CS. CYLINDERS.—CONSOLIDATION LOCOMOTIVE, PENNSYLVANIA RAILBOAD.
