The Hayden Ranch south of Leadville, Colorado was established in 1859, mainly producing hay for miners' horses and mules during Leadville's mining boom. In the latter 1890's, the ranch began running cattle, but fell into disrepair when it was all but abandoned in the mid twentieth century. These corrals, barns and sheds are all that are left of a once lively place at the base of Mount Elbert, the tallest mountain in Colorado. The Rocky Mountains in the background are still covered in heavy snow, while the grasslands around the ranch come to life in May.
