By repeating in this way a few times, the horse willsoon learn to sit up when commanded, without being tied. To Throw Boys. To teach a horse to throw boys, first make him kickup as before explained. Then have plenty of straw on theground, put a boy on his back, and while holding the haltermake the horse kick up sharply by pricking, or touchinghim with the whip. Repeat until hewill, at the motion of the whip, make an effort to get theboy off. When he has done this, put on a larger andstronger boy, so that he must make a greater effort to gethim off. Watch the point carefully, and see that the boycomes off when the horse makes an effort to throw him,otherwise he will soon become discouraged. By persever-ing in the treatment, he will soon learn to throw the mostexpert rider. But it will be noticed that he will make agreater effort sometimes than at others.
