So far these changes can beunderstood; but Professor Temminck, without noticing thisprevious arrangement, places the birds belonging to Cuviersgenus Ciiiin/ris, under his own ni-odification of Illigers Nec-tarhua, while to the Nectaritiia, as characterized by Cuvier,he gives the generic name of Careha. This last change hasintroduced great confusion; for the student must bear inmind, that Cuviers genus ^ectanina corresponds to Tem-mincks Careba; that Cinriyris of Cuvier is Nectari?iia ofTemminck; and finally, that all these are included underIlligers original genus Nectarinia! M. Vieillot has stillfurther added to this unfortunate multiplicity of names, bygiving that of Mc/lisuga to Cuviers Ciiiinjris. This maytruly be termed a war of v/ords. In the meantime, asCuvier was the first who, by giving the name of Cinnyris, designated the Sucriers of Vaillant, and those only, his de-finition and generic name to these birds should unquestion-ably supersede all
