Central American migrants wait as a speeding freight train they hoped to hop aboard passes them by north of Mexico City.

After almost a year of simmering conflict the Juan Diego Migrant shelter in the Lecheria neighborhood north of Mexico City, was symbolically closed by neighbors complaining of drugs, crime and unsanitary conditions on their streets. The Catholic Church, which runs the sanctuary for economic refugees from Central America, near the railroad lines that go north to the US border, then officially closed it on Monday July 9, 2012, leaving the migrants with no option for food or shelter in the area. As a northbound freight train speeds by, waiting migrants contemplate whether or not to hop on it.
