The complex was a row of grand buildings embellished with pink granite facades with piers behind forming the docking points for ocean liners of Cunard Line and White Star Line from the early 1900s. The piers are now used by the Chelsea Piers Sports & Entertainment Complex.

These were eventually designed by the architectural firm of Warren and Wetmore, which also designed Grand Central Terminal. The waterfront structures consisted of a row of grand buildings embellished with pink granite facades and the piers behind formed the docking points for ocean liners of Cunard Line and White Star Line from the early 1900s. Located to the west of the West Side Highway (Eleventh Avenue) and Hudson River Park, the piers are now used by the Chelsea Piers Sports & Entertainment Complex.
