Triumph of the Tulips. Florists of the northwestern states are now offered a cliance to win fame for themselves in a new field. This oppor- tunity is afforded them by Bellingham 's tulip festival, held at Bellingham, Wash. Three northwestern counties of Wash- ington compose the tulip's kingdom. They are Whatcom, Skagit and San Juan. In the tulip capital, Bellingham, whose other name is Tulip Town, her majesty. Queen Tulip, will be crowned with elaborate ceremony May 4. To this realm the entire northwest is in- vited. This year's tulip festival, the third that Bellingham has held, will far sur- pass the grand affair of 1921. Commit- tees have been working on the details for months. Bellingham has long been a tulip- growing center, but not until three years ago, after the Federal Bureau of Plant Industry had successfully experi- mented with that flower on the outskirts of Bellingham for more than a decade, did the city awaken to the great pos- sibilities of the tulip. After two tulip festivals had been held by the com- munity it was asked that some organ- ization be formed to take the responsi- bility of future festivals. Tale of the Tulip.
