Creator(s): Nast, Thomas, 1840-1902, artist Patriotic drawing commemorating the Naval Review held in New York Harbor in connection with the World's Columbian Exposition held in Chicago in 1893. The drawing shows a young woman holding a paper labeled "The Great Naval Review, New York, April 1893," sitting next to Uncle Sam and handing him a feather for his hat labeled " Navy." Two boys wave an American flag and play with a toy cannon at their feet. Behind them stands an arch labeled "Union of All Nations" through which ships may be seen. The columns of the arch are labeled "North, South, East [and] West" and "E. Pluribus Unum." At the base are flowers bearing the names of the states. The naval review, held April 27, 1893, included ships from Great Britain, France, Russia, Germany, Italy, Spain, Brazil, and Argentina, in addition to the United States Navy.
