In the ten years 1897 to 1907 the trade ofTimaru increased by 138 per cent., creating a recordof expansion amongst the ports of New , a few miles to the southward on the samesurf-beaten coast, represents an attempt to get over muchthe same difficulties by different—and, as it happened,much less successful—methods.
