To decide between these alternatives, animals were fed under different regimes in two experiments as shown in Table II. In each experiment, the hydra reached repletion after having ingested a similar number of shrimp even though the total period of time until repletion was reached was different. Thus, the time interval from the onset of feeding to repletion does not play a role.
