Items washed ashore at Southport, Merseyside, UK 4th February, 2015 UK Weather. Ainsdale beach littered with heavy timbers after recent storm force winds off the Irish Sea. The beaches around Merseyside were covered in marine litter brought in by blustery northwest winds which swept across the coastline, reaching at times in excess of 30 knots. While such events are a natural occurrence the high tide coupled with the strong onshore winds provided extraordinary conditions to deposit large objects on the shoreline.
Southport is a tourist destination located on the Irish Sea coast, miles ( km) to the north of Liverpool and miles ( km) west-southwest of Preston. Ainsdale beach is designated by Sefton Council as a kite beach where kitesurfing and land-based kite traction activities are allowed.[7] The Sefton coastal path and the Trans Pennine Trail both pass through Ainsdale. A number of waymarked nature trails are also accessible from the town. These trails allow access to the Ainsdale Sand Dunes, designated as one of the National Nature Reserves in England. This nature reserve also comprises part of a Ramsar site.
