Suzaku no Niwa Garden at Umekoji Park was built to commemorate the 1200th anniversary of the Heian Period (7984-1192). The garden features landscape techniques and methods unique to Kyoto, developed over its long history. The garden was created to achieve a blend of tradition and creativity. The Mizukamami Pond and Nosuji Hills are interspersed with flower beds, waterfalls and artificial hills. The area was once a fruit train station, that has been repurposed into Umekoji Park and Japanese garden.
