Orissa state tribal farming land in the spectacular undulating Koraput district countryside where shifting agriculture usage is practised. red earth /soil makes the panoramas colourful and people live in inaccessible, interior areas of Orissa and utilize land, water and forest for their basic survival. They depend on traditional customary rights over these resources This traditional right is recognized by tribal communities who are ensconced in a specific eco-niche. After independence the state govt. and govt. of India laid claim over these resources as permanent power. The state also lays claim to areas of land which are unused or vacant. In context of tribal habitat, the rights to use these lands and their traditional systems sometimes made untenable by the statutory authorities. Traditional customary rights are sometimes not recognized by the state governments. Land for others may be an object for agriculture but land for tribals is a part of larger socio economic structure of society, which is handed down from one generation to another as sources of life sustenance.
