Raeburnsminiatures are rare, but they are most interest-ing as being the beginnings of his subsequentcareer as a portrait painter on a more im-portant scale. Little is known of James Scouler (1761-82),but what work of his can be found is verygood. He worked on a very small scale, andone of his miniatures is at the Victoria andAlbert Museum. Andrew Plimer (1764-1837) was a native ofBridgwater. He came to London with hiselder brother Nathaniel, and both of thempainte
