The trees, with one exce})tion, consisted of winter varie- ties, 10 of which were Golden Russet, 1 Northern Spy, 2 Greening, and 3 nndetermined. Since only 16 trees of the whole orchard were banded, it is believed that the comparatively small number of first- "TTT n. 15 lb II Ji 2i 28 Jl 3 b <\ 12 15 13 21 Zh n iO Z 5 8 II ^k 17 20 23 2«. t1 2 5 6 II !â . With the appearance of the first larvae, July 13, the banded trees were examined every three days throughout the season until November 13. (See fig. 21.) In comparing the number of larvae collected from the upper and the lower bands, it will be noted (Table XXXIII) that 53 per cent were taken from the lower bands and 47 per cent from the upper bands. These figures are of interest as bearing on the effectiveness of gathering windfalls. A summarv of the band records is given in Table Please note that these images are extracted from scanned page images that may have been digitally enhanced for readability - coloration and appearance of these illustrations may not perfectly resemble the original United States.
