Philip Avner, British geneticist. Avner has been a CNRS director of research and Professor at the Pasteur Institute, working on X-chromosome inactivation. He was head of the Institute's Mouse Molecular Genetics Unit from the early 1990s to 2012, and head of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) research group at Monterotondo, Italy, since 2012. He was awarded the Louis D. Foundation Prize in 2011. Photographed at the 'Epigenetics, Reprogramming and Development' conference hosted by the French Academy of Sciences at the Institut de France, Paris, France, from 14-15 September 2010.
