It is the immutable water-clock of the Yel-lowstone—the most perfect illustration of geysericphenomena—the most famous and beautiful geyserin the whole world. The note of the beginning of the play of thegeyser is an angry growl down deep in its throatwhence almost instantly the water in rapid re-currentleaps, forms the stately fountain that plays for threeminutes and then slowly sinks into the earth toawait its time to rise again. Sometimes the windsunfold from its top an irridescent banner of spray;but more often the fountain form is a perfect cone.
