Rubble on the Batognica Ridge near Mount Krn, Kobarid, Slovenia.

Rubble on the Batognica Ridge near Mount Krn, Kobarid, Slovenia. A tourist information sign alludes to the 4100kg of dynamite that was detonated on the 24th September 1917. The summit of Mount Krn can be seen behind the rubble. Fierce fighting between the Italians and Austro-Hungarians took place along this ridge during Word War I. Positions of the two armies were only 15 metres apart here. The battles ended with the war of mines when the 4100 kg of explosive was detonated. Evidence of the fighting abounds on the ridge in the form of shelters, defences, barbed wire, trenches, ammunition shells and human bones.
