Even this house was soon too small for the fast growing membership,and on May i, 1884, the Larchmont Yacht Club leased two dwelling houseswith four acres of land and a stable at an expense of $5ocx) a * < . O o z 6 YACHTS AND YACHTING 99 In November, 1887, the Club made its final move when it purchased elevenacres of land and a large mansion which commanded a superb view of Sound, at a cost of $100,000. To alter this mansion into an attractiveclubhouse $30,000 more was spent, and since that time over $75,000 has beenspent in improving the house and grounds. As it stands today with its hand-some clubhouse, spacious grounds, stone seawall and a splendid situation on theshores of Horseshoe Cove, the Larchmont Yacht Club is indeed an organizationof which to be proud.
