Giant Moa, Dinornis
Dinornis, a gigantic bird from New Zealand that lived during the Quaternary Period, with a bull for size comparison. All moas, including the giant Dinornis, were extinct by 1500, probably killed off by Polynesian hunters. Illustration from Louis Figuier's The World Before the Deluge, 1867 American edition.
