A Canadian goose out to eat a meal of grass in spring.

Mother will change eggs position every 4 hours. Fathers are a part of raising the little chicks. Sometimes a community of geese work together with two sets of geese looking after the little ones, both in the water and then taking them onto land to sleep while the other parents go off to eat. After awhile the parents will switch around so all the adult geese have a chance on their own to eat and rest. Some adult geese prefer to raise their chicks alone. The newborn geese stay here until the babies can fly well. At that time they will join up with other geese to fly south in late autumn. These birds fly in a V formation which gives some lift to those behind. The geese will change position during the flight to a warmer winter home. In some warmer areas of Canada, the geese stay year round.
