Globular star cluster NGC 6760, infrared image. Globular clusters are spherical groups of very old stars, about 12 billion years old, that are tightly bound by gravity and orbit a dense central core. NGC 6760 is found about 24,000 light years from Earth, in the constellation Aquila. Image obtained using the Isaac Newton Telescope (INT) at Roque de los Muchachos Observatory in La Palma, Canary Islands, as part of the IPHAS (The INT Photometric H-alpha Survey of the Northern Galactic Plane) survey.
