At the Maori Community Centre thefood was spread out on mats, Islandstyle. Tumuaki and Sister Young andthe elders led the gathering by being-seated on the mats first and then thefeast began. We were favoured later in the even-ing by a Sasa, which is an Islanddance done by the ladies sitting down,and a Lakalaka, a womens actionsong. This was accompanied by therhythm of the men singing. We were also entertained by a kailao, a clubdance that was performed by theTongan boys to the pulsating beat ofthe tom-tom or kauoluga. The total proceeds gained for theBuilding Fund grossed £174/4/6 andwas a financial success. We wish tothank our members for their kind andgenerous support and to our peoplefrom the Islands of the Pacific, especi-ally our folks from Samoa and Tonga.
