Guyon-Lake-Tysen House, built around 1740, now in Historic Richmondtown, Staten Island, New York
The house was built around 1740 and originally located on Tysen's Lane in the Oakwood section of Staten Island. It was constructed on an 80-acre farm by Joseph Guyon (d. 1758) around 1740. Farmer Daniel W. Lake (d. 1839) bought the house in 1812 and added the kitchen wing ca. 1820. He lived here with his wife, the former Mary Gifford, eight children and three slaves. Lake's daughter, Elizabeth Lake (d. 1898), married David J. Tysen (d. 1885). They lived here with their ten children. Descendants gave the house to the Staten Island Historical Society in 1962, after which it was relocated here. It is an official New York City landmark.
