Alder carr, Frensham Common, Surrey, England. Waterlogged wooded environment with Alder trees in winter. Surrey Hills AONB.

Alder carr on Frensham Common, Surrey, to the east of Frensham Little Pond. A carr is a waterlogged wooded environment where the initial vegetation of reeds has been shaded out by moisture loving trees: in this case alder trees, a species that thrives in wet situations. The name derives from the Old Norse kjarr, meaning a swamp.
