Sale is a son of Rev. Stephen and Mabel M. (Knott)Sale, the former of whom was born at Wokingham, England, andthe latter at Dover. Their marriage was .solemnized in 1856 andMrs. Sales paternal grandfather was a warden of the Cinque Ports,in which capacity he had the distinction of piloting the Bellerophon at the time that this vessel had thegreat Napoleon on board as a prisoner.
