Captain-Commandant Charles F. Shoemaker. Charles F. Shoemaker was born in Glendale, Iowa, on 27 March, 1841. He was appointed Third Lieutenant, Revenue Cutter Service (now U. S. Coast Guard) on 20 November, 1860. He served on various Revenue Cutters Service vessels until he resigned from the Service on 4 April, 1864.
