A large fence surrounding the Mokomoko Dryland Sanctuaryin Central Otago built to protect the Otago and Grand Skink population from predators.

This high, fine mesh fence was installed in 2015 to protect two of Central Otago's indiginous species of skink - the Grand and Otago Skinks. Most protection is protection from other mammals, many of them introduced , non-native species. The reserve is in the hands of the Central Otago Ecological Trust. The "Nationally Endangered" lizards used to be abundant in the area but are now to be found in just 8% of their previous habitat. As well as protecting the skinks the Trust also have an objective to retore the native dry grasslands of Central Otago.
