Brigadier General Orde Wingate and the Special Night Squads, Palestine, late 1930s. Orde Wingate (1903-1944), wearing a suit, with members of the Special Night Squads - armed groups formed of British volunteers and men from the Haganah (Jewish militia). The Squads, organised by Wingate, later became part of the Palestine Regiment during the Second World War.
