Max Roach plays the drums.


Max Roach, Leading percussionist was born 10 Jan 1924 and by the age of 10 was already playing the drums in some gospel bands (his mother was a gospel singer). He started to go out and play with Kenny Clarke, Bud Powell, and Miles Davies. He played on many of Charlie Parker's records including the Savoy1945 session. In 1952 Roach co-founded Debut Records along wiiith Charlie Mingus. In 1954 he made 'Jazz in 3/4 Time'. In 1966 He recorded 'Drums Unlmited' proving that drums can be used as a solo the 1960s he. In the 1960s he also made 'We Insist-Freedom Now' with Oscar Brown Jr. after attending commemorations for Abraham Lincoln's 100th anniversary. In future the race issue in America would be a signicant part in his a time he was blacklisted by the American recording industry. In the early 2000s unfortunately he became less active through alzheimer's disease.
