No. 2. THE MAINE STATE POULTRY SHOW. The fourth annual exhibition of the Maine State Poultry and Pet Stock Asso- ciation was held at Portland, December 6, 7, 8, 9, and was a success in every way. The birds in quality as well as in numbers surpassed the previous exhibitions and the attendance was far beyond the expec- tations of the management. Wednesday and Thursday afternoons and evenings were record breakers for attendance, more than a thousand people visiting the show each day. Every detail of cooping, feeding and management was under the supervision of Vice-President Silas Bartlett, and every- thing moved along like clockwork. There were nearly nine hundred birds on exhibition besides a large number of pigeons. Barred Plymouth Rocks num- bered 156 specimens, and Single Comb Rhode Island Reds 152, with about 80 Rose Comb Reds. Competition was also close on White Wyandottes and Buff Cochin Bantams, while many of the classes containing but small numbers were full of quality. The judging was by the Decimal Score Card system, by A. C. Hawkins, J. F. Watson and Geo. P. Coffin, and the prizes were awarded as follows : Barred Plymouth Rocks—1 cock., E. P. Atwood, Auburn; 2 cock, L. C. Whit- ing, Norridgewock; 3 cock, 2 ckl., 4 pen, H. L. Hunton, Oakland; 1 hen, B. S. Gale, Amesbury, Mass.; 2, 3 hen, 3 ckl., 2, 3 pullet, 1 pen, E. E. Peacock, Kent's Hill; 4 hen, C. F. Jose, So. Portland; i, 4 ckl., I. V. McKenney, West Auburn; I, 4 pullet, Ashmont Farm, Waterborb; 3 pen, Geo. A. Jones, Auburn; 2 pen, Howard Hicks, Woodfords.
