Bust of Rossini, 1831. Gioacchino Antonio Rossini (1792-1868) was a composer most famous for his comic operas. Although of Italian birth, much of Rossini's later life was spent in Paris, where he undoubtedly sat for this portrait for David dAngers, whose ambition it was to sculpt portraits of all the famous people of his day.
