In another house (IX. viii. 13) two Genii are painted, andunder one of them is scratched in large letters EX SC, un-doubtedly for exsenatus consulto, —in accordance with a decreeof the Senate. We are probably safe in assuming that thedecree referred to is that of the reign of Augustus, by which theworship of the Lares was regulated ; if so, the figure is intendedto represent the Genius of that ?->? ? :-? i.
