Lamb house in the East sussex town of Rye was the residence of Henry James, American novelist, from 1897 - 1914. It is Georgia dating form 1723.


Lamb house was built in 1722 by James Lamb, a wealthy wine merchant. Apart from being the residence of the author Henry James, it is equally well known as the residence of EF Benson who wrote the Mapp and Lucia novels, although the latter referred to the house by the name of Mallards. The house is curently owned by The National Trust, it being gifted to them in 1950 by the widow of Henry James' nephew. It is open to visitors. Henry James lived there from 1897 - 1914
