Bamburgh Castle seen from Bamburgh village, Northumberland, England, UK

Bamburgh was the Saxon capital of Bernicia and for a time of the united kingdom of Northumbria. The castle built on a dolerite crag, has a Norman keep and much of the curtain walling dates from before 1250. However, most of the remainder was rebuilt by Lord Armstrong in the late 19th century.
