After the muster out of his regiment he was appointedmajor of the One Hundred and Seventy-seventh O. He had several attacks of paralysis brought onon account of the wound he had received at Antietam, and in1878 was admitted to the Soldiers Home at Dayton, remained there until he died, March 14, 1881. He wasburied with full military honors in Section B, Row 12, Grave27, Home Cemetery, where a marble stone bearing name,command, etc., was placed;. Krieger was an exceptionally brave and patriotic soldier,and his early demise was occasioned by the wound he hadreceived in action. Requiescat in CAPTAIN JOHN F.
