Tolpuddle Martyrs Festival 2015
The festival processtion takes place through the main street at Tolpuddle, Dorset, Uk on Sunday 19th July 2015. Every July the village of Tolpuddle in Dorset, UK, hold this festival in memory of the Tolpuddle Martyrs. The Martyrs were six farm workers who lived and worked in the village of Tolpuddle. They were arrested on 24 February 1834 on the charge of making an illegal oath. The actual offence was in forming a trade union to address their poor working conditions. For this felony, they were sentenced to seven years transportation to the penal colonies of Australia. Over the next year or so there was such a public outcry that they were pardoned several years later.
