Strange to say, the original sphericalballoon has since made but little few refinements have been added, suchas a valve to let the gas out at the will ofthe pilot; a ripping strip to tear out of theballoon on landing, so as to let all the gasout immediately and prevent being dragged;an anchor for the same purpose, and a longtrail rope which hangs beneath and slackensthe rate of descent o
