LARGE NEW CAR HOUSE OF CHICAGO CITY RAILWAY The Chicago City Railway Company has just completedat Ashland Avenue and Sixty-ninth Street a large fire-proof car house with especially elaborate accommodationsfor division officials and trainmen. The new buildingoccupies the block between Sixty-ninth and SeventiethStreets and Marshfield and Ashland Avenues. Its widthis 265 ft. 3 in. and it is 487 ft. long. The two ends of thebuilding are set back about 55 ft. from the property lineto permit cars to enter between columns placed betweenthe tracks in each bay. The building is subdivided into. Chicago City Railway Car House-Elevation -Sixty-ninth Street six car-storage bays and one repair and general-utility second-story portion on the Sixty-ninth Street end issubdivided into storerooms, a clubroom, trainmens roomsand division offices. CONSTRUCTIONAL FEATURES The accompanying plan shows the relative arrangementof the car-house bays and the through connecting trackswhich are built so that all cars may enter from the southor Seventieth Street end and leave from the north endwithout any unnecessary shifting or reverse cars are turned in at night for cleaning and in-spection they are passed progressively from the south endof a bay without shifting from track to track. As theyenter at the south end they are washed, then moved for-ward to be cleaned and fumigated, then run ahead over apit for inspection and adjustment. Finally when ready forservice, they are moved to the north end of the bay, thereto await the demands of the trans
