An early press photograph of kitchen waste (pigfeed puddings) made from waste that had been collected by the Westminster City Council Food Utilisation Plant. During the second world war, and for some time afterwards, collections of household food waste were collected and used as feed in local municipal pig farms or boiled up as pig feed ‘puddings’ by special steam cookers. Pig clubs were even set up on school playing fields to 'turn waste into ham and bacon'
