Congleton, Cheshire, England, UK. 25th January 2018. Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall greets well-wishers in Congleton Town Centre (Cheshire UK), as crowds wave commemorative flags bearing an upside-down Union Jack - a symbol of distress. The Royal couple were visiting the Cheshire market town to visit community projects, celebrate 700 years having a Mayor and unveil sculptor Amy Goodman's statue commemorating Treo, an explosives sniffer dog, who served in Afghanistan. After crossing the road to visit the Prince of Wales pub, couple chatted and shook hands with visitors.

After visiting the sculpture and crossing the road to visit the Prince of Wales pub, the couple chatted and shook hands with excited locals, many of whom had stood in chilly temperatures for over two hours to catch a glimpse of the town's Royal guests. No doubt Prince Charles' Naval service would have allowed him to recognise the flag faux-pas, which is a recognised distress symbol, but if he did notice this gaffe, he made no acknowledgement.
