Barbados is a parliamentary democracy and, since 1966, an independent sovereign state within the Commonwealth. The Parliament Buildings, situated in the heart of the capital city of Bridgetown, are home to the bicameral Parliament, The Senate and The House of Assembly. Constructed of local coral limestone, these beautiful Gothic style buildings dominate the center of the City.
