The streets were unusually wide fora Spanish town and there were scarcely any two-storiedbuildings because of the frequent earthquakes. The houseswere of plastered adobe and were often tinted but not usuallyof a bright color. Our hotel was pale green, the stores acrossthe street a salmon yellow.
