JORDAN'S GRAY MONARCH, OR LONG WHITE ICING Last year a new watermelon was adver- tised by one seed house as Jordan's Gray Monajch, by another ^% Long White Icing: w" consider the two names syn- onymous, as descriptive of one variety. For several years past a few melon grow- ers in New Jersey have had a type ot the favorite Icntg Watermelon, entirely dis- tinct in shape, being oblong, as shown in our illustration. 1 he skin is of an attrac- tive, mottled, Tcry light green color, so light as to nearly warrant the name while or gray. The flesh is deep red in color and of very fine quality—fully equal to the old Icing, which has long been recognized as one of the finest flavored Watermelons grown. In size, this new variety is much larger than the old, specimens having been raised to weigh 60 to 70 lbs each,.
