The Bridge and Ferry, etc. 153 The Tolle Bowie.—On 25 February, 21 Eliz. (Fianls) wefind a lease to Edward Moore, gent., of the custom of thetolle bowle at Manfieldstown. Again we find James by Letters Patent to Sir Garrett Moore, inter alia, the custom of the toll boat of Maynfieldston at a certainrent, 4 June, 1612 (). The Bridge connecting Manfieldstown (near the village)with Braganstown townland spans the River Glyde, wherein ancient times there was a ferry. It now consists of a singlearch. It was, with others, built as part of the scheme forthe Drainage of the River Glyde. At Braganstown there isa carved stone with an inscription, partly broken away,saying :— The first stone of this bridge was laid by the Garstin, MDCCC . . Sillery, builder.
