Located on the beach at Glyne Gap close to the cycle and pedestrian path in Bexhill-on-Sea, these three life-size figures of local heroes were unveiled on 24th January 2012. The figures and adjacent visitor’s bench are at the start of a route which linked two existing traffic-free paths, Galley Hill in Bexhill and Hastings promenade, to create a cycle path which is more than 5km long and part of the nationwide Sustrans cycle network. The figures of Spike Milligan, Richard Ball and Tyrone Wildman are cut from sheet steel and were inspired and chosen for their individual contribution to the life of the local community. The commemorative plaque on the wooden bench reads: Richard “Boyley” Ball 1977 – 2002. A talented and legendry young BMXer, much respected and loved by the community, his memory lives on at the Boyle Forever Skate Park. (This park is located at White Rock, Hastings). Tyrone Wildman 1951 – 2010. President and life member of Sidley Cricket Club, body builder and supporter of local charities. Spike Milligan 1919 – 2002. A comedian, writer, actor & poet best known for his work on the radio show The Goons in the 1950s. (He was stationed in Bexhill during the Second World War and later lived near Rye). The commemorative plaque at the other end of the bench reads: Celebrate Sustrans winning a nationwide vote in 2007 to create new walking and cycling routes across the UK, funded by the Big Lottery Fund.
