There themother died when John was ten years old. in1848, from which time forward he made hishome almost continuously among father died in 1870. In his youth Mr. McMurray experienced theusual educational disadvantages of residencein an unsettled region. Up to the time hewas sixteen years old his total period of at-tendance at school amounted to but fifteenmonths. However, he attended Brookville.
